STATEMENT FROM DANIEL VALENZUELA ON ARIZONA’S SUPREME COURT DECISION TO UPHOLD ARIZONA’S TERRITORIAL NEAR-TOTAL ABORTION BAN

“Today, the Arizona Supreme Court has ruled that the 1864 abortion law, passed by Arizona's first Territorial Legislature — a law that predates Arizona's statehood — is to be reinstated in 2024.

Arizona’s residents should not be subjected to this extreme politics. It is time that we as all Arizonans, irrespective of party affiliation, stand up and fight for a woman’s entitlement to essential, basic or life-saving medical care, transcending the divisive realm of extreme anti-choice policies.

The legislature must immediately address this injustice and provide women with choice and access to this critical medical care.

Further, I am calling on my opponents in this race for Maricopa County Supervisor, District 3, to take a stand and reject this oppressive law that endangers women's health, safety, and well-being, and join me in supporting the Arizona constitutional amendment on abortion this November on the state’s ballot."
